Sculpted in 1914 by Alexander Phimister Proctor, the Dumbarton “Q Street” Bridge and four bronze buffalo had deteriorated due to the harmful effects of weather and acid rain. Treatment of the bridge included pressure washing and a crushed walnut shell cleaning used as an air-driven abrasive, followed by two applications of hot wax protective coating, which brought the sculptures back to their original appearance.
