Island Press is a publishing company whose focus is books having to do with environmental information and solutions. Each year, the group publishes 40 books on topics that include conservation biology, marine science, land conservation, green building, sustainable agriculture, climate change and ecological restoration. By donating to Island Press, the Trust helped to support the promotion of books and publications that advance the synergies of historic preservation, and environmental conservation and protection. The grant also encouraged exploration of the challenges, and the possible solutions to those challenges, of the continued use or adaptive reuse of historic structures using the best available technology to achieve environmental goals. In the spring of 2009, the Trust partnered with Island Press as part of the grant agreement to host a total of seven lectures on the importance of historic preservation and green building.
